Motivation comes in many ways. It could be that meme you saw on twitter, that video on instagram, the story you saw on TV or even the guy you saw when you were driving by. Most of the time, after visiting motivational talks around town, I feel like I can do just about anything. Finding motivation tends to make anyone positive, accepting and really happy.
However, we tend to ignore our biggest source of motivation- our inner selves. Did you know that knowing yourself is the best healer of all conditions? Looking down on yourself can put you in hospital and even in a coffin. Now there are 5 ways to learn to love yourself and find that inner motivation to do whatever you set your mind to.
- Every morning before going out, take 2 minutes to look at the person in the mirror. Think of all the qualities you posses and you strengths. Knowing what you are capable of, helps in ways I can't put in words.
- Think of how it would be when you have reached your goal. How does you life look like? What is the feeling like? The feeling is the mos important part. Cause if you have felt it in your imagination, you know that you have to push yourself to be able to actually feel that way for real.
- Keep a to-do list and cross out as many tasks as possible in a short space of time. The list actually helps you to monitor your progress, you feel more motivated everytime yoi cross out one to-do item.
- Learn not to be too harsh on yourself. Most of us tend to give up on things because of the failures of yesterday. When I was reading 'The Pilgrimage' I learnt a very important exercise, which goes like this:
The Cruelty ExerciseNext set of tasks are simple,
Every time a thought comes to mind that makes you feel bad about yourself – jealousy, self pity, envy, hatred, and so on – do the following: Dig the nail of your index finger into the cuticle of the thumb of the same hand until it becomes quite painful. Concentrate on the pain: it is a physical reflection of the suffering you are going through spiritually. Ease the pressure only when the cruel thought has gone. Repeat this as many times as necessary until the thought has left you, even if this means digging your fingernail into your thumb over and over. Each time, it will take longer for the cruel thought to return, and eventually it will disappear altogether, so long as you do not fail to perform the exercise every time it comes to mind
- Keep a journal where you write down any thought; idea; or just anything that come into your mind. Read it later and take note on your mind of the way you think of yourself or the world and how can you change that or use it to your advantage.
- Take it one day at a time. Success may not come immediately, but it will come definitely. If you're not a millionaire right now, you can still be one the next day.
- However, if you sit and do nothing, nothing good will come. Give yourself a push. Get out of bed even if your mind is totally against it.
- I always tell my brother that, choose friends who support your dreams and goals. Having soldiers on your corner during this battle will make you even more positive. Ask them to join in if necessary, or just knowing that you have their full support.
- Do not compete with others. The real meaning of self-love is realizing that you are you and you are unique. We all have different destinies to fulfil. Don't try to be your neighbour, it will leave your spirit shattered for good.
- Create a reward system for yourself. It could be going out everytime you reach a milestone, or buying ourself something nice.
- Read a book! There are a number of success stories in the form of books. Read atleast one book a week, I tell you, really changes the way you think.
- Set reminders to your tasks.
The other rule is simple, just smile. I smile a lot, not because I have a gold tooth or because I am happy (well, I kind of am happy..), or that I am shy. I smile because smiling is the best motivation you can ever get. You don't necessarily have to be happy to smile but you can smile anyways. Ever heard of the saying "fake it til you make it"? It works! Just pretend to be happy and motivated and eventually you will be.
P.S. I would like to hear from you. Why don't you leave a comment below.
