Recently I have discovered that, the reason I can't get things that I should do, things that I must do, things that I want to do and things that will shape my future, is beacuse... I'm not doing anything at all or sometimes I do things on deadline day.
I believe that for you to be able to fix a problem is to know it's cause. Here why you probably don't get your things done.
- Procrastination. Usually some people have the "Tomorrow is another day" kind of mentality so fixed that it stops them from doing anything. Let's say you are doing things, but it's usually a day before deadline day, and it compromises the quality of your work.
- Your priorities in terms of your to-do list count. Sometimes, we tend to prioritise things that are of no benefit to us. For example, you would rather not miss your favourite TV show than to finish that assigment. Or you would rather go out with friends for fun than staying focused on what you had been planning to do during that time.
- A lack of information and/or inspiration plays a big role in stopping people from achieving greatness. Not knowing what to do in order to get somewhere is a great barrier in life.
- Laziness is a very big word. That being said, we cannot avoid the fact that it plays a very big role in getting in the way of important things that are a must-do. We sometimes feel that the work load is too much and that you can't possibly make it and then you just give up.
So, with all those incentives at play, how do you do thing? How do you just... brush them aside, and continue with your journey without having to do it last minute and under pressure?
South African billionaire, Patrice Motsepe once said that his day starts at about 5 a.m. He wakes up at 5, hit the gym for 45 minutes, takes a shower, grabs a quick breakfast, and then check his emails. We stress on the importance of having your day to start early because in the morning, energy levels are high, and you get to decrease your work load. In a nutshell, be a morning person.
Co-founder of a productivity app called iDoneThis, Walter Chen said that it is also important to procrastinate. (Wait. . what!? ) You read it right, procrastinate. Why? When you have a big task, your mind will feel the pressure and reduce your productivity. Starting with small tasks and treating them as priorities for a while will help your concentration level stay high.
Remember not to work yourself to death by having short breaks. Example if you're studying, take a 10 minutes break every two hours to help your mind stay at ease. Spend yor break online, it helps you to relax and enjoy the fun while keeping you focused when you get back to what you do. It can also help boost your creativity and maybe give you the motivation you need to get it done.
While at highschool, I learnt that knowing your priorities helps. Sometimes you would get led astray by what your friends are doing and the so-called FOMO. So, sometimes my friends would urge me to stop what ever I'm doing just to go out and have a jol. Learning to stick to your work plan, and saying "no" to people and other things that will make your day less productive should be your new value.
If you apply these strategies right, you will see that your day get even more productive and you have less stress.
Til next time.
